“Wellness for Me” with Temidayo Musa

Last updated on November 20th, 2023 at 08:16 am

To encourage the practice of wellness we’ll be hosting a guest series featuring different individuals with different personalities here on the blog.

Inculcating wellness practices and making our well-being a necessity rather than a luxury or fad is a guaranteed way to thrive rather than just exist. By reading from and relating to others, it’s my hope that we’re encouraged to practice habits that serve our well-being no matter how little. Not forgetting that the body keeps the score.

We’re starting strong with Temidayo who humorously shares his experience on wellness and thriving!

“Thank goodness that there’s love at home, I for don die 😂.”

Q: Hi, Temi. It’s nice to have you here. What do you do and how busy would you say you are?

A:  I work in the civic and development space. My work centers around promoting democratic participation, civic engagement and solutions, and making governance work for the people. That’s it in a nutshell, and if I am to talk about how busy I am 😂, Omo, it depends o. Some days I don’t even have time to eat, I don’t remember that I have a social media account and on other days, I force myself to create time to unwind.

There’re a lot of issues in Nigeria, so no free days.

Q: Do you consider yourself to be strongly or weakly affected by the happenings in Nigeria? I ask this because as a Lagos big boy, I can’t imagine many things affecting you 😅

A: 😂 make I laugh first.

Why won’t it affect me?? We are in this renewed hope economy together ke 😂. Competitive salary no fit carry buy you return ticket to Maldives 😂. So it is affecting me. I’m even speaking English, e dey touch me 😂.

Increase in petroleum price created an increase in car-hailing prices, increased the price of Berry blast gaan, Trolley’s parfait is now 2,500 from something that used to be 1,800 o.

Don’t let me even complain about data and food. I fit cry. 😂

Q: How do you manage or implement your recovery resources when stressed?

A: As funny as it sounds, most times listening to music does it, while sometimes being with loved ones (the ones that won’t bill me sha o) or watching movies too😊. I love watching movies.

I heard doing “mummy and daddy” too helps relieve stress but I haven’t tried that one yet, so I wouldn’t know.

Q: What do you consider to be wellness?

A: anything that gives me peace of mind. Shopping, exercise, sleeping inside hotel rooms, blocking chaotic people 💀.

Q: What are your 3 nonnegotiables when it comes to your mental health?

A:

  1. Sleep (no matter the problem, even if na WW3, I’ll sleep small)
  2. Kind people (Make sure you have kind people around you, you will need them)
  3. Contentment ( I don’t compare myself with others in a way that breeds covetousness and lowers my self-esteem. I’m working insanely with my own time without looking at other people’s time. Read it as a Yoruba person)

Q: How does your environment aid or interfere with your wellness commitment? Please share a personal experience.

A: Some of my friends know that the way my room is arranged or scattered is directly proportional to my state of mind. 😂

One time I was working on a project and I needed to write an impact report. It was a weekend and I needed to be in a clean and organized environment to function well but my room is scattered inside out and I wasn’t ready to fix it.

That’s how I picked up myself in the night and went to the office. Slept there for two days.

Q: Would you really say that you’re on top of your financial wellness?

A: As I am saving for rainy days, rain dey fall immediately 😂.

I won’t say I am on top of it per say. It is a journey. Every month I try to reduce my recurrent and operational expenses while looking at expanding my income stream. It is not an easy process but I am trying.

Q: Now that we’ve come to the end of the session, please share with us a stressful day you had and how you managed to turn it around.

A: So far this year, election season really stretched me to the core. Due to the nature of my work and new technologies that we deployed during the general elections, Omo, I have seen stress o, but what I saw during the election was a cluster forms of stress.

Thank goodness that there’s love at home, I for don die 😂.
