“Wellness for Me” with Osadolor Omoregie

Last updated on November 20th, 2023 at 08:07 am

To encourage the practice of wellness we’ll be hosting a guest series featuring different individuals with different personalities here on the blog.

Inculcating wellness practices and making our well-being a necessity rather than a luxury or fad is a guaranteed way to thrive rather than just exist. By reading from and relating to others, it’s my hope that we’re encouraged to practice habits that serve our well-being no matter how little. Not forgetting that the body keeps the score.

In this episode with Osas, he shares his insightful and inspiring experience on wellness. His “morning pages” is also a habit worth adopting.

“I enjoy my peace of mind and would rather focus on the positive things around me than otherwise.”

–Osas

Q: Hi, Osas. It’s nice to have you here. On a scale of 1-10, how busy would you say you are?

 A:  It’s been 9, in recent times…

Q: Do you consider yourself to be strongly or weakly affected by the happenings in Nigeria? I mean, not everyone has allowed themselves to be affected.

A: Yeah, I’m one of those who choose not to be affected 😅 it doesn’t matter much to me, really. I enjoy my peace of mind and would rather focus on the positive things around me than otherwise…

Q: As a father, how do you manage or implement your recovery resources when stressed?

A: I try to save for rainy days, but family comfort comes first for me. I do not think twice about dipping my hands into savings to ensure the family is well-catered for.

Q: What do you consider to be wellness?

A: I consider wellness to be having thriving mental, physical, and emotional states.

Q: So, share with us what your 3 nonnegotiables are regarding managing your finances.

A:

1. Family first

2. Save a percentage of income no matter how little

3. Analyse every spend (predetermined or otherwise reactionary)

Q: Rain or shine, what’s one thing must you do daily to optimise your well-being?

A: Morning Pages (it’s a practice of writing 3 pages of whatever comes to mind throughout the entire day)

It helps to cleanse (unclog) my mind at the start of each day and keeps me receptive to new creative ideas as the day progresses.

Q: As we round off, can you share a story or personal experience of how your environment interferes with your wellness commitment? Also, how do you manage it?

A: I try not to allow events around me to negatively affect my wellness, but every now and then, it happens… these cases are usually a result of a disappointment from a situation having had a high expectation. A workplace and/or colleagues can be considerably toxic, and having to deal with that on a daily basis can be a huge blow to wellness commitments… To manage this, I look out for opportunities to engage colleagues differently or to improve the working organisation culture by first being an example to others… Change, after all, starts with us.

I totally agree with Osas that change starts with us!
