Sunday blues, a fancy word for the workweek or Monday anxiety is more common than you may think. ‘Sunday scaries’ as many also refer to it is that anxious feeling you get on Sunday when you remember that a workweek is about to begin or that the next day is Monday.
We all get it, so know that you’re not alone.
Knowing that you’re not alone can make you feel better, but it doesn’t keep the anxiety at bay. Here are some ways to beat this anxiety:
Try to be as least productive as possible:
Make Sundays your least productive days. This in itself is probably a privilege considering that many people have only this day to sort out their chores, but if you can, make your Sundays as free as possible. Replace it with intentional rest and things that fill you up such as a walk, talking to friends, reading, etc.
Write in a Journal:
Writing about your feelings and possible cause(s) of anxiety can help you identify your deeper emotions and probably give you a direction. You may discover that you are not anxious about the whole workweek but a particular meeting that’s scheduled to hold during the week. Writing down your feelings is a way to connect with yourself and see your anxiety from another perspective.
Consider switching your job:
Let’s face it, some of us just dislike our jobs. We don’t need to rest for a month or to fill a whole book with our thoughts. We know it, we dislike what we do or where we work. And that’s fine. But you can consider applying to other jobs. It probably hasn’t occurred to you, but you can dust up your CV and start applying to other companies.
Anxiety is more common and seen as normal, but we can transcend it and aim for a more balanced life.
All the best!
