“Wellness for Me” with Olajumoke Akingbemila

Last updated on November 20th, 2023 at 08:36 am

To encourage the practice of wellness, this guest series features different individuals with different personalities here on the blog.

Inculcating wellness practices and making our well-being a necessity rather than a luxury or fad is a guaranteed way to thrive rather than just exist. By reading from and relating to others, it’s my hope that we’re encouraged to practice habits that serve our well-being no matter how little—not forgetting that the body keeps the score.

In this episode, Olajumoke’s jolly personality shines through as she shares the importance of positive thinking and having a listening ear. She also takes a more holistic approach to her wellness, admitting to not being there yet but constantly working on it. The goal is progress over perfection and we’re rooting for Olajumoke.

I consider wellness to be living an active lifestyle you truly find to be good for you, which could be how you manage your emotions, mental health, physical health, and honestly your spiritual health (very important).

Q: Hi, Olajumoke . It’s nice to have you here. What do you do and how busy would you say you are?

A: Hello Yetty, it’s a pleasure to be here and I am honoured.

I am a management system consultant and also a project manager in a fast-growing IT and IT governance Company. Really I am most times busy with work and meetings but I always find a balance for myself, my family, and my friends.

Q: What do you consider to be wellness?

A: I consider wellness to be living an active lifestyle you truly find to be good for you, which could be how you manage your emotions, mental health, physical health, and honestly your spiritual health (very important).

Q: So, share with us, what are your 3 nonnegotiables regarding managing your finances? For me, it’s budgeting, tracking my expenses, and saving.

A: LOL… I am so big on:

1)Saving

2) Ignoring things that aren’t a priority at the moment which also means I track my expenses to be sure I’m spending wisely

3) Investment and really I love to give (I want to believe it does something to my finances) pardon me with my spiritual matters 🤣🤣

Q: 😅 It’s understandable. Rain or shine, what three things must you do daily to optimise your wellbeing?

A:

1) Pray. I literally can’t stand up from my bed until I say Thank you Jesus and during the day I say my affirmations

2) I try to take lots of water and do some walking exercises. Pretty much these are important but I do other things yeah.

Q: What are your thoughts on mental health?

A: Mental health is so important and really I don’t think we talk so much about it. You know I was talking to someone sometimes and she explained mental health to be moving mad on the street… You see, when issues get to you and you don’t find a way to get through it it can affect your mental state and it gradually starts to tell even on the outside. Our thoughts affect our mental health a lot so I tell people that speak up when something worries your mind, share your worries so that your thinking can be better, and also be positive in thinking.

Q: Would you really say that you’re committed to your wellness practices?

A: Lol, I am trying honestly. I recently started to diet not because I am fat or what but because I want to live healthily for myself, I drink lots of water, I meditate and all this can be for my physical wellness.

2)Fasting and Prayers, reading the word of God, and daily affirmations are for my Spiritual wellness

3) I am also trying to go out more to balance my social wellness (not there yet but I’m trying)

Q: Now that we’ve come to the end of the session, what do you want to leave us with?

A: Always think positive regardless of the situation you find yourself in, talk to people you know can help you be in a better state because really it starts with our thoughts.

Thanks for having me again Yetty 💕
