Chapter 5, Episode 1

“So you told him you like him?”

“Yes, I did.” Zabby had come to pick me up from the park and we were on the way to her new place apartment that she recently got

“Hmmm, so he is now your boyfriend?”

“Ahnahn, just like that?”

“What else? You like each other!”

“So, you must date everyone you like abi?”

“Stay there. Your own is different, you people have been doing hide and seek for over one year now.”

“Please, I am hungry… leave me,” Zabby replied with laughter. She was excited for my return and I felt the same way. I’d really missed her.

I could not help but think about her question though. It was three days ago Tochi and I had this discussion and after telling him I liked him, he told me how he felt too which was not exactly new considering he had said it many times. But I guessed a part of me expected that we would talk about what this meant for us. We just expressed how we felt and after a while, we joked then we started reading tweets. At midnight, he left after we hugged for what felt like hours. I also could not ask him because I didn’t know if it’d come off as too early or too desperate.

Knowing Elizabeth, she might be quiet for now but she would not let the matter be. Well, until then. I was honestly famished right now. I looked at my phone expecting a message from him but there was nothing. And there it is. He went home yesterday and I tried to stay up to date with his movement. I had an assignment for yesterday so I had to stay back. I kept messaging him on WhatsApp to find out about his journey. After a while, he did not reply which made me feel like I was overdoing it. Actually, he was online but not replying to me and he did not reply till later at night.

I had to shrug off his attitude, I guess he was just a nonchalant person. I should not hold his personality against him.

“So, would you be coming home at all?” My dad asked on the phone. Once we got to Zabby’s, after marvelling about her house even though I had seen it during our video calls many times, I ate and slept off immediately. I had just woken up when my parents’ call came in.

“I am not sure, I just got back today.”

“But we have not seen you in over three months.” My mum said. I also missed them but the fact that everyone was avoiding the main thing that caused me to feel this way really hurt. I almost wanted to ask myself if that night ever happened but then they called me. put the phone on speaker and called each other pet names and I was reminded that it indeed happened.

“Angela, are you still there?” My dad asked.

“Yes, sir.”

“You must come home. I don’t want to have to be stern, but you must come home. I don’t know why you are acting like a kid. By tomorrow, you must be home.” And he hung up. I felt tears well up in my eyes. My dad was never the strict type but for certain occasions. He was typically cool and his asking me to come home was his way of showing me he still had the final say.
