It was ten o’clock and Tochi was not back yet. I was already getting hungry. I couldn’t believe I got home before him and he still did not think to return earlier than now. One would think I was a fussy girlfriend who showed up at his apartment daily. I took a deep breath and continued reading my book.

“Angel, open the door.” I had slept off and Tochi was now at the door. I closed the door to his room since I did not know his flatmates. I had only seen one flatmate and he seemed nice, he even helped me with my bag when I arrived and asked if I wanted something to eat.
I got up, my heart beating fast, not bothered by the time again. I opened the door and all my anger dissolved. I forgot just how pretty Tochi was and here he was in flesh. Whenever I really missed him in the past months, I’d go through my gallery to see pictures of us, but seeing him now was way better than any picture. He stepped inside and hugged me.
We held on for so long, my heart beating wildly still. He kissed my neck, and my cheek then held my face. “Angel, my Angel.” He whispered. My eyes glistened with tears as different emotions sprang up. I never stopped loving Tochi, what we had was deep. “I’m sorry I came back late, baby. I brought food for us.” He tried to separate us so he could drop the food but I just held on tight. He shifted his focus back to me, rocking us back and forth.
“Wow, it’s so good to see you, my Angel. I thought you were going to chop off my head.” He said after I finally let go.
“I should have, but I don’t have it in me right now.” We both laughed at this. My stomach grumbled and we laughed more. He went out of the room and came back inside with plates and spoons as he dished the food he got.
“I got rice, grilled fish, chicken pepper soup, Indomie, and suya. What do you want?”
“Wow, are you trying to appease me with food?”
“Omo, if I can.” I pretended to think for a while knowing fully well that I would go for noodles and suya.
“I want noodles and suya.”
“So easy to please.” He knows this yet he makes it hard. I bit the inside of my cheek to keep quiet. This moment felt sacred and I did not want to soil it.

“I thought you were going to sleep all through today.” Tochi’s voice was the first I heard as soon as I opened my eyes. I smiled and turned my head to the other side. He came to the bed and tried to pull the pillow from underneath me. I laughed as I held on to the pillow. It hit me that Tochi and I had never slept in the same room before and it made me giddy.
“Tochi, leave me jor.”
“Leave fire. You are not leaving here again.” I opened one eye and looked at him.
“Get up, come and eat.” He said, tugging the pillow again.
“Okay okay. What’s the time?”
“It’s past nine and your phone has been ringing. Your mum.”
“Really?” I got up at this and he stretched my phone to me. I saw she had called twice. So I dialled her number.
“Hello, mummy.”
“Sweet Angel.” My mum replied.
I had to tell my mum I was busy with class and was preparing the students for their tests. I dropped the phone and collapsed on the bed.
“Lazy girl, come and eat.”
“Wait, are you going out?” I got up from the bed. He hesitated a bit, knowing this could change the atmosphere. “Tochi?”
“I just want to reach a few places.” Wow. I kept quiet and picked up my phone. “Angel.” He called but I just kept quiet. I suspended everything to come here and I did not tell my parents, but Tochi could not clear his own schedule.
“Angel, at least eat.”

I was quiet until Tochi left. He warmed the rice and fish for me when he was done dressing.
“Angela, I have warmed the food for you, I will be back shortly.” He dropped the plates and looked at me. I had my headset on, there was no music yet I refused to look at him. After a while, he turned, picked some things, and left.
